my mother died when i was 5 she made a policy in my name i am 24 now the policy is matured but i don't have the policy documents as they were stolen by the grandmother family, neither do I know the bank branch details what should i do..

In the absence of Bank details, it would be very difficult to locate the policy. Otherwise you can make a representation to IRDAI on their official email id/portal with the name of the mother along with her parentage and address at that time, if known

If your mother took out a policy in your name and it has now matured, you still have legal remedies even if you do not possess the original documents or know the bank/branch details. First, identify the insurer. Most life insurance policies in India are issued by LIC or private insurers. You can visit the nearest LIC office or contact major insurers with your full name, date of birth, your mother’s name, and her date of death, and request a policy search. Insurers have internal records and can trace policies using these details.

Second, obtain your mother’s death certificate and your own identity and address proof (Aadhaar, PAN). These will be required for any claim. Once the policy is traced, apply for issuance of a duplicate policy bond, explaining the loss or theft of the original documents. This usually requires a police complaint (FIR or lost document report) and an indemnity bond.

If the grandmother’s family is unlawfully withholding the documents or has withdrawn the amount, you may send a legal notice demanding return of documents or disclosure of amounts received. If needed, you can file a civil suit for recovery or a criminal complaint for theft, cheating, or criminal breach of trust.
