Details

The scheme has been introduced with the objective of providing financial assistance to all landholding farmers’ families in the country. Its primary purpose is to support them in meeting their agricultural as well as household requirements. Through this initiative, farmers are able to procure essential agricultural inputs that contribute to maintaining crop health and ensuring better yields, thereby safeguarding their expected farm income.

Under this scheme, the Central Government extends a financial benefit of ₹6,000 per year to every eligible farming family. This amount is disbursed in installments and transferred directly into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, ensuring transparency and efficiency. However, the scheme also specifies certain categories of exclusions to maintain fairness and to ensure that the benefits reach the deserving farmers.

Benefits

Under the scheme, each eligible farming family is entitled to receive a financial benefit of ₹6,000 per year. This support is structured in a manner that ensures regular assistance throughout the year, as the amount is divided into three equal installments of ₹2,000 each. These installments are released at intervals of four months, thereby providing farmers with timely financial aid to meet their recurring agricultural and household needs.

Eligibility

The scheme extends its benefits to all families of landholding farmers who possess cultivable land registered in their own names. In other words, any farming household that legally holds agricultural land is considered eligible to receive financial assistance under this initiative. By linking eligibility to land ownership, the scheme ensures that the intended support directly reaches those who are actively engaged in cultivation and dependent on farming for their livelihood.

Exclusions

The scheme is designed to benefit genuine and needy farming families. However, certain categories of beneficiaries belonging to higher economic status are excluded from receiving its advantages. These exclusions are as follows:

1. Institutional Landholders: All types of institutional landholders are not eligible under the scheme.

2. Farmer Families with Specific Members: Any farmer family where one or more members belong to the following categories is excluded:

  • Former and present holders of constitutional posts.
  • Former and present Union and State Ministers, Members of Parliament, Members of State Legislative Assemblies or Councils, as well as former and present Mayors of Municipal Corporations and Chairpersons of District Panchayats.

3. Government Employees: All serving or retired officers and employees of Central or State Government ministries, offices, departments, public sector enterprises, attached offices, and autonomous institutions under the government, as well as regular employees of local bodies, are not eligible. However, this exclusion does not apply to Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS), Class IV, or Group D employees.

4. Retired Pensioners: All retired individuals receiving a monthly pension of ₹10,000 or more are excluded. Again, this condition does not apply to pensioners who fall under the Multi-Tasking Staff, Class IV, or Group D categories.

5. Income Tax Payers: Any individual who has paid income tax in the previous assessment year is not eligible for benefits.

6. Professionals: All professionals such as doctors, engineers, lawyers, chartered accountants, and architects who are registered with professional bodies and actively practicing their profession are excluded from availing the scheme’s benefits.
